He could have easily come out as a caricature, but due to some deft acting and careful characterization, the role retains some sense of normalcy. The lead pair do their roles well with Walter playing the earnest Vinod who is trying to figure out his own feelings. Being a remake of Malayalam movie, we can see that the makers have tried to keep the spirit to the original. That being said, the movie is surprisingly pleasant watch without any vulgarity, violence or needless sidetracks. In fact, in the first few minutes itself, the characters refer to watching "Bombay" movie about a Hindu-Muslim love story and state this would be similar to it, making a oblique reference to the sources of inspiration. This is another love story, which we have seen numerous times before.
